B. Application Process and Eligibility Requirements
15. Are the Young Peacebuilders fees and travel expenses fully covered? Will I have to pay for something?
As an official policy, the organizers of this programme do not require payment of any participation fee. All selected youth participants will have access programme activities and will be provided with round-trip international ticket (economy class) to Abuja, Nigeria; 6 days accommodation (in shared accommodation [double-rooms], with a participant from the same gender, from November 20 through November 26, A.M. hours). Meals and coffee breaks will be provided during the official programme, as well as shuttles to/from the airport in Abuja.
Youth participants will be responsible for their transportation to and from the airport in their country of residence, as well as any incidental expenses, souvenirs, equipment, etc., and meals incurred outside of the official portions of the training.
16. Can I submit my application in a language other than English?
No. Applications are only accepted in English. A good command of written and spoken English is necessary to take part. The applicant should understand English very well and possess intermediate to fluent levels of the language, in order to participate in the conversation and provide input.
17. Why do I need to upload a scan or picture of my passport’s identification page?
We need your passport’s identification page to verify your identity, age, nationality and confirm your eligibility to participate in the Young Peacebuilders in West Africa.
If you do not have an international passport, upload your national identification card. Please also note that if you are selected, you will need to obtain your international passport and provide a copy to the organizers very shortly after being selected. Failure to do so by the deadline will result in cancellation of your participation since an international passport will be required to travel and make travel arrangements.
18. When will the selected participants be announced?
The selected participants will be announced by September 30, 2016. All applicants will receive an email announcing the results of the selection process.
19. I am not a citizen of a West African country. Can I still apply?
Thank you for your interest in the programme, but this first edition takes place in West Africa. UNAOC intends to hold future editions in different regions of the world. Stay tuned! You also may be eligible for other UNAOC opportunities. Follow us to receive updates: www.unaoc.org | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram Google+.
20. Can I apply to participate in the Young Peacebuilders if I am younger than 18 or older than 25?
No. Only young adults who will be aged 18 to 25 at the time of application and during the entire duration of the Young Peacebuilders in West Africa programme are eligible to attend. Therefore you must be born on or between January 1, 1991 and August 15, 1998. No exceptions will be made.
Note, however, that there are several other opportunities offered by the UNAOC for people younger than 18 or older than 35. Please check our website www.unaoc.org for updates, or follow us on social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Google+.
21. I am not working with and/or affiliated with an organization, network or initiative. Am I eligible to apply?
No. A key objective of the Young Peacebuilders is to allow the selected participants to disseminate the outcomes and lessons learned to a wider audience through their networks once they return home – in their organization, community, etc. Therefore, if you are not linked to any initiative/organization/network, this outreach becomes much more difficult. We encourage you to join an initiative, organization or network and apply for the next edition or another UNAOC programme.
22. I do not have a passport or my passport will expire before June 2017. What should I do?
The best solution is to obtain a new passport before submitting your application.
Alternatively, you should start applying for a new passport and in the meantime, you can upload the current version of your passport or – if you do not have a passport – your national identification card. In order to be accepted in this programme, selected applicants must hold an international passport valid until at least June 1, 2017. Please note that if you are selected, you will need to provide a copy of your passport valid until that date to the organizers very shortly after being selected. Failure to do so by the deadline will result in cancellation of your participation since an international passport will be required to travel and make travel arrangements.
23. I currently live in Nigeria (I am a Nigerian or a citizen of a West African country). Do I still need to upload a passport?
Yes. We need your passport’s identification page to verify your identity, age, nationality and confirm your eligibility to participate in the Young Peacebuilders in West Africa. If you do not have an international passport, please upload your national identification card. Only one of these two documents will be accepted.
24. Whom can I contact if I have other questions regarding the application process?
You should be able to find the answer to most of your questions in the application guidelines and the FAQ. Please read them carefully. If you still have some questions after reviewing these documents please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note, however, that due to the volume of applications we receive, we can’t guarantee a response to all of your questions. It is best to read the guidelines and FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) carefully for a better understanding of the requirements.
